Digitally re-mastered release containing the complete original classic 1957 album, which Mingus himself considered one of his best. Featuring an all star group including Jimmy Knepper, Curtis Porter, and the greatly underrated trumpeter Clarence Shaw, who would break his instrument and quit music that same year after a fight with Mingus. Mingus is considered one of the most important composers and performers of jazz, and he recorded many highly regarded albums. Dozens of musicians passed through his bands and later went on to impressive careers. His tunes, though melodic and distinctive, are not often re-recorded, in part because of their unconventional nature. Essential Jazz Classics. 2009.
