An early review of the album: \'Thursday, September 11, 2008 CD review by DC Larson Play \'s/t\' (drb) Discs like this recall rock\'n\'roll\'s purest promise, and why we first fell for the outrageous music. From defiance rises optimism. It showers listeners with exuberant lilts, cascading choruses, rainbow-streaming voices, and stunning six-string pyrotechnics. Play cites the Who, Cheap Trick, and the Velvets. And if they\'re not in that league, they\'re on familiar track. Bonus points for inviting Glockenspiel into the glorious madness.\' PLAY was founded by Tris and Connor back in 1996 when they were classmates together at University of Portland. They quickly gained noteriety for their insane stage shows, one of which resulted in the quick firing of the original bassist. Unable to sustain a line-up - the Portland curse - both relocated for a brief time to New Orleans before eventually ending up back in Portland. Tris joined Captain Rock, a popular power pop band led by Beth Kelly while Connor formed his own band: Swingin\' Amiss. In 2006 they got together and started jamming again, recruiting Colin from the Vantucky Diamonds. While continuing to play live in and around the Portland area, the band settled in to record their first full length LP which was completed this year and is set for a late September 2008 release. PLAY is set apart by it's inability to sound like any other band. They have a unique quality that is welcoming, undeniably original and ready to rock. PLAY \'s live shows have always been described as \'over the top\' and now that they have the right people and attitude they are unstoppable.
