Reviews:

If there were still a Lilith Fair, Nelly Furtado would be the poster child. Since the release of 2000's Whoa, Nelly! (don't say she didn't warn you), the Portuguese-Canadian Furtado pureed trip-hop, jagged beat poetry and easy-livin' R&B like the demon seed of Ani DiFranco and Morcheeba. And did we mention that vibrato? Anyway, it's safe to say the innocuous funk-lite of "I'm Like a Bird" and "Turn Off the Light" needed a makeover for two-thousand-sex, and Missy renovator Timbaland was more than happy to oblige. If the double entendre of the title doesn't do it for you, try the seductive back-and-forth of head-turning single "Promiscuous Girl," mostly written by Virginia's MC Attitude. It's too early to tell if Furtado's fully taken the plunge into durrrty hip-hop, but emulating Mariah via hot duets is a good way to stay relevant. Busta should be on the phone any day now...
