More Info:

The follow-up to Batman Begins, the Dark Knight reunites director Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale, who reprises the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne in his continuing war on crime. With the help of Lt. Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman sets out to destroy organized crime in Gotham for good. The triumvirate proves effective, but soon find themselves prey to a rising criminal mastermind known as the Joker, who thrusts Gotham into anarchy and forces Batman closer to crossing the fine line between hero and vigilante. Heath Ledger stars as arch villain the Joker, and Aaron Eckhart plays Dent. Maggie Gyllenhaal joins the cast as Rachel Dawes. Returning from Batman Begins are Gary Oldman as Gordon, Michael Caine as Alfred and Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox.

Reviews:

The greatest movie of all time? We’ll save you the trouble: heeeeeeeeeeell, no. Check out a little decade we like to call the ’70s. But all elitism aside, The Dark Knight is really good. Director Christopher Nolan improved on virtually every aspect of Batman Begins, making the conflict between Bruce Wayne (incorruptible, yet unlawful), Harvey Dent (lawful, yet corruptible) and the Joker (pure unbridled anarchy) richly multifaceted. Casting Gary Oldman against type as Jim Gordon—and expanding his role into the heart and soul of this installment—was a masterstroke. And yes, Heath Ledger deserves every accolade posthumously proffered upon him. Now if Nolan could only learn how to shoot a fight scene. And tone down the tenor on Christian Bale’s "Batman voice." But really, these are the same complaints even the most devoted fanboys had, and the sane among us have gladly looked beyond these flaws to appreciate TDK for what it is: an instant classic.
