One of the earliest metaphorical teachings about the story of the Fall in Genesis is that it resulted in the fragmentation of the human intellect. That is, our more complete union with God was broken, and we became capable of, and prone to, a fragmentation of thought, with the result that we can be distracted from deeper and subtler promptings of the soul. We often live in our heads, with many thoughts, plans and worries, and thus miss the quieter Presence of what the prophet Elijah experienced as the 'still, small voice.' Each Sunday night at 8, people from all over Richmond, Virginia, gather in the gentle quiet and soft candlelight of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church to still their minds during 30 minutes of chant and Renaissance polyphony, sung by the group, Sanctuary. The effect of this, for many, is an experience beyond words and intellect, an experience that ultimately draws one to God, Holiness, and changes us. On May 18, 2012, Sanctuary gave a concert at St. Stephen's Church. Using a recording of the concert and additional material from other recording sessions, the group has produced a full length CD to give you some of this special Sunday night experience to take to your car, your home, your loved ones.
