Rock The Twat @ Mills Record Company

This Friday, Mills Record Company will host a benefit for the Rose Brooks Center. Rock The Twat will help victims of domestic violence find refuge and escape the cycle of abuse. Sister Mary Rotten Crotch, Bohemian Cult Revival, and Katy Guillen and The Girls will put on a wonderful show while a $10 cash or $5 with an unopened box of feminine hygiene products will act as a donation. In a time when our president elect not only brags about sexual assault but also is filling his cabinet with politicians who don’t care about women’s rights, it’s up to us to be better, to do better.

Starting with the ending, Sister Mary Rotten Crotch makes punk music that straddles to line between early AFI and bass heavy bluesy grooves. The result is music that has a hefty punch and an infectious hook. Deceptively simple, Sister Mary Rotten Crotch’s songs leave no room for breath as they unfurl their electric riffs. And this energy is magnified on stage. Putting on a show that is as sharp as it is full of energy, the Kansas City quartet proves that punk is far from dead in the city. You do not want to miss these musicians doing their thing on stage (especially if it’s for a good cause).

Bohemian Cult Revival is a troupe of performing artists. Incorporating storytelling, music, burlesque, feats of strength, clowning, miming, and other entertaining acts, Bohemian Cult Revival puts on a show that will incorporate all of the senses. What will the company do at Mills Record Company? I don’t know. Will it be amazing? I can almost guarantee that. Whatever they do, the members of Bohemian Cult Revival will tantalize anyone in attendance with their show stopping performances.

Katy Guillen and The Girls will play their trademark bluesy rock. Joining together fiery solos and rumbling riffs, the Kansas City trio makes music that is all heart and no filler. Katy Guillen and The Girls’ latest album, Heavy Days, unfurls like a more nuanced and woolier version of the type of blues rock The Black Keys has been doling out. But rather than retreading what Junior Kimbrough left that other duo, Katy Guillen and The Girls incorporate more rocking elements, stunning harmonies, and more surprises into their songs. And anyone who has caught the trio at Knuckleheads or at other venues around town can attest to the energy they bring to the stage.

Whether you want to help The Rose Brooks Center provide a refuge for victims of domestic abuse, simply want to check out some good music, or (most likely) do a little bit of both, Rock The Twat is the benefit to do it at. This Friday, Katy Guillen and The Girls, Sister Mary Rotten Crotch, and Bohemian Cult Revival will rock to help victims of domestic abuse. The show starts at 6pm and will require a donation of $10 or $5 with an unopened box of feminine hygiene products . Rock The Twat this Friday at Mills Record Company.

Wow there are like 6 shows I’d like to be at on Friday. Crazy. Hopefully I can make this one before slipping out for the Musicians For Active Justice : Get Loud! benefit at Record Bar.
