Live Tonight: Week of September 1st – September 7th: Welcome Autumn!

The weather is cooling off which means the slew of tours that happen every fall are coming through Kansas City. September and October have been notoriously busy in years past as far as live music goes, and this year seems no different. We’ve got killer shows on their own this week (D.R.I. and Code Orange on the same day?! Are you kidding me?!) but also another city-covering local music festival in the Crossroads Music Fest! So there’s lots to choose from and, believe me – it’s only getting better from here on out.

Monday, September 1st

The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus with Hawthorne Heights, New Empire, Famous Last Words, The Ongoing Concept, Everybody Run at Riot Room 7 PM $17

Here’s a throwback. Two bands that hit their stride with that kind of post-hardcore/emo/screamo movement once MTV took notice of it back in the mid-2000s. I’m sure most people can name at least one song from each these headlining bands. Might be a fun little dig to check out to get the week started!

Tuesday, September 2nd

Solstice with Demonic Plague, Rimjob, Dark Apostle, Ancient Creation at Aftershock 7 PM $14

You want underground extreme metal? We’ve got your underground extreme metal. Solstice is a death/thrash metal band from Florida made up of members of the legendary Demolition Hammer and which featured, at one point, members who went on to play in Cannibal Corpse, Cynic and a multitude of other legendary bands. Their 1992 self-titled release was a staple of the budding Florida death metal scene, alongside other bands just getting started like Death and Deicide. Crushing riffs, insane solos and the embodiment of heavy fuckin’ metal! You won’t want to miss these legends.

(they’re probably going to cover this!)

Islands with TEEN, Pioneer at Riot Room 7:30 PM $12

Ed Sheerhan with Rudimental at Sprint Center 7:30 PM $54

Wednesday, September 3rd

Acoustic Mayhem featuring Folkicide, Rabbit Killer, Rory Cameron, Pup Zips at Davey’s Uptown 8 PM $5

Hilltop Hoods with SIMS (Of Doomtree), Sharks and Hammers at Riot Room 7:30 PM $17

The Breeders with The Funs at Record Bar 10 PM $25

Granger Smith at The Granada 7 PM $15

Thursday, September 4th

Joyce Manor with The Exquisites, Chase Ambler at Jackpot 7 PM $10

Joyce Manor is a band that has already made unforgettable strides in the music scene by blending together pop punk, alternative rock and post-hardcore into one beautifully mixed sound that’s garnered praise from fans and critics alike. This is one of those bands where people will be jumping over each other to scream the lyrics into a microphone from the first song to the set closer – just be aware of that when you attend!

Dirtfoot with Whiskey For The Lady at Bottleneck 9 PM $9

Hermon Mahari with HILDEGARD, Reach at Riot Room 7 PM $7

Jessie Andrews with DeeJay Spinstyles at Riot Room 8 PM $5

Friday, September 5th

D.R.I. with American Dischord, Sister Mary Rotten Crotch at Davey’s Uptown 8 PM $16

It’s not easy to keep a band together for five years, let alone for over thirty. And in that span, not only has D.R.I. performed all over the world and garnered immense respect for their live shows, but they successfully helped bridge the gap between punk rock and heavy metal – the tag “crossover” might not exist with this band right here. This will be one of the rowdiest shows Kansas City will ever see so make sure you don’t miss it! Expect at least 50 songs played.

Code Orange with Full Of Hell, Noisem, Dogma at Art Closet 7:30 PM $8

Inspectah Deck at Riot Room 8 PM $15

Cake at Crossroads 7 PM $36.50

Washed Out with Small Black at The Granada 8:30 PM $15

Buzz Beach Ball featuring Arctic Monkeys, Weezer, The Mowglis and more at Sporting Park 3 PM $30

Mountain Sprout with Clusterpluck at The Bottleneck 9 PM $9

Rockstar Uproar Festival featuring a whole bunch of bad bands at Cricket Wireless Amphitheater 1:30 PM $10

Saturday, September 6th
