lawrence field day fest 2015

Kansas City is hitting an all-time high when it comes to festivals. With the amazing lineups and smash hits of Middle of the Map and Boulevardia – but now here comes another one! If you haven’t been hiding under a rock, you’re probably aware of the amazing local music scene in Kansas City, Lawrence and the surrounding areas. Some of the best of the best are performing three days at multiple venues down in Lawrence for the 2015 edition of Lawrence’s Field Day Fest. Did I mention it’s cheap? Only $20 for a 3-day pass. Insane! Don’t forget some of these awesome other shows as well! For more information, including venue schedules, click here!

Monday, June 22nd

Smashing Pumpkins with The Eeries, Katie Cole at The Midland 8 PM $40

One of the most important and impressive bands in alternative music history, the Smashing Pumpkins return to Kansas City with an acoustic/electric evening at the Midland. I feel like it was only a few years ago that the band (or maybe just Billy Corgan) was painting themselves a bad picture by weird/terrible live shows, but it seems the band is back in prime form again. A show not to be missed!

Tyler, The Creator with Taco at The Midland 9 PM $27.50

The leader of the acclaimed hip-hop collective Odd Future Wolfgang Kill Them All and always a spectacle whether it’s on album, on stage, on television or just in the general popular consciousness, Tyler, The Creator returns to the Kansas City area headlining a massive show at the Midland with fellow OFWGKTA member Taco. Half-punk rock and half-hardcore hip-hop, Tyler will bring his A-game, no doubt.

There hasn’t been a more divisive, hyped, creative, infuriating, mysterious, brilliant, terrible, historic, critically-acclaimed, hated and absolutely insane hip-hop group (maybe music in general?) than Death Grips in recent years. Over “break-ups”, releasing albums for free in defiance of record contracts and a seemingly never-ending repertoire of material coming out at all times, their notorious live show comes to the Granada on Friday. There better be some moshing!
